Dear John Kasich; You did build that. It’s like smelling smoke and just sitting there because you felt no heat? Your house is now in flames and it could burn us all. Thanks. No. Really. Thanks. For giving a voice to insanity. A platform for hate. And a venue where that can be exploited and inflicted on us all.

Gov Kasich? As a politician you should understand that calling a tail a leg does not make it so.

The ‘conservative’ movement in the US is not conservative at all. They are revolutionaries. Their repeated calls to destroy, well, pretty much everything that government does save the military shows this.

The primary goal of any revolutionary movement is to destroy the existing society and replace it with something else. Your fellow travellers are revolutionaries, and the GOP let them in and encouraged them.

So quit yer bitchin’!

He is a member of a party that no longer exists apart from in a stolen brand. Stolen by the radicals. Burned to the ground and now a 90% different creature bearing the old name and logo.

The Republican base is no longer conservative. It’s composed of radical nihilists, fundamentalist theocrats, and militant white nationalists—there’s simply no other way to explain Trump & Carson being the front-runners. Aside from the New York Times/CBS News survey results released yesterday that put Carson in the lead by 4 points, Trump has been the #1 spot for 100 days now. Let that sink in for a minute: Donald Trump has been the top contender for the GOP nomination for President of the United States for 100 days. The knowledge that someone like Carson has momentarily surpassed him is hardly comforting.

The GOP seems to be in a death spiral and I suspect it may be too late to stop it in any meaningful way. The “establishment” conservatives opened the door to this and then were too fearful or too greedy to kill it in its infancy. I have no sympathy for them.

This guy was a big part of the Gingrich Republican Revolution. I am sorry but I don’t have any sympathy for Kasich who rode the 2010 GOP freakwave to victory. This is his ideology. And frankly the conservative movement’s always been pretty fucked up.

When we call these guys “conservative” we are making two huge mistakes. First you don’t let an abuser define a term of phrase like conservative. All this does is let the critics accept the mal definition for their own diminutive purposes.

Second, the GOP is essentially stolen goods at this point.

The best critical approach is to call them out on how they in fact have come well away from conservative values, how they have no right to use the term unless as a lie. Next, take away the brand.

the conservative movement, such as it is exists in the California Executive branch (Fiscal conservative Jerry Brown) , among some Indys, and some few Dems. In the GOP? Essentially as empty as deep space. A few stray atoms floating about in a near perfect vacuum.

Conservatives don’t get to define liberals. Liberals and libertarians do not get to mal- define conservative. Rush L. etc does not get to mal-define liberal. The NRA does not get to define good guy with gun or responsible gun owner. Not any more than Trump gets to define anyone.

Good luck with that and welcome to my world. This is exactly how moderate Muslims feel about terrorists and other extremists and they are a much, much smaller percentage of the whole than extremist right-wingers. Yet we all get tarred with the same brush because these asshats cherry pick the bits & piece of Islam that suit their agenda (and ignore the rest) because, hey, it’s all part of Islam, it’s a Muslim problem. etc.

Yeah—it is, but it isn’t. It’s an extremism problem and it damned sure isn’t limited to Islam or Muslims.

Nope, and I for one am not sitting still for it. Luck or not. :-)
Heh maybe you remember when Obdicut and I went round and round on Jerry Brown as fiscal conservative? He simply could not accept the term despite all the evidence. It takes quite a conundrum to render that very bright guy to a hem and haw.

The balls on this clown. Kasich and his ilk cynically nurtured and prodded gun nuts, lunatics, religious extremists and racists for decades and presumably thought they could keep them leashed as long as they kept tossing out red meat platitudes forever. The crazies aren’t settling for that sweet talk anymore and all of a sudden, “OMG what happened to my people?!?!”

Take a nice, deep chug a lug from that punch bowl you shit in and savor the fruits of your labor, jackass.

You actually are lucky in the sense that it’s something you can take action on through voting, donation, activism, etc. Alas, apart from keeping an eye on events locally to make sure no extremism is seeping in, there’s not a whole hell of a lot we can do about the extremism short of packing our bags and going overseas to join the Kurds (which would almost surely result in our names being added to some terrorist watch list we don’t want to be on).

FWIW
Mr. Kasich has expanded Medicaid under President Obama’s health care law, embraced the Common Core educational standards and said he was open to a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants — policies that he might have a hard time explaining to conservatives in Iowa.

Agreed,. I am lucky in more ways than I should admit. Great home life. Good career. I live here, not in Syria, not black, not Muslim, not gay, not poor or in any immediate major peril. Not from crime or cops. Might just be nobody in power or major influence will listen to this middle class never elected to anything middle class white guy from Cali.

OTOH… After all CL we have immensely powerful tools compared to our parents. The cameras in our cell phones, the cloud, and heck I’m an idiot to explain the webs implications to you of all people. So I figure we use what we got, understand we got more than anyone before us by much, and stay the hell away from combat.

Fair enough but this is what they call themselves. I do feel they are better described as reactionary than conservative. I really do think the “conservative movement” if you can call it that was cooked for years. I mean as much as I do appreciate that “Mr. Conservative”, Barry Goldwater was pro-choice and pro-gay rights, I must also add that he opposed the most important civil rights legislation of his era too. If these guys are what run as conservative officeholders, I am going to cal them that. And the fact that Jerry Brown can now be seen as a fiscal conservative type I think really furthers my overall belief that the sensible right in this country eists in the center of the Democratic Party and nowhere near the GOP. I am sorry but I have no sympathy at all for Kasich who rode the Ragewave to victory and was part of Gingrich’s crap too. He’s only saying this because he’s got little chance fo being president.

Fair points but he’s still a big part of the problem IMO when he says stuff like marijuana causes overdoses or that he’s engaged in same scapegoating of teachers that guys like Christie and Walker have. I understand your point about “fiscal conservatives” not being bad but I want more fiscal conservatives to realize that the sensible fiscal policies have not been offered by the GOP in a long time. Being anti tax and “big government” does not make one a fiscal conservative.

Yep. And I have to say, I really take issue with Kasich lying about marijuana like that. He knows better than that. I don’t have a problem with politicians or people saying that abusing marijuana isn’t good for you but I will not put up with lies about marijuana “overdoses.”
